CLEVELAND — A group of students at Case Western Reserve University attended a colorful celebration of Indian culture on April 1, called Holi.

According to the university’s website, Holi is a festival of colors that welcomes spring. Participants throw culturally symbolic colored powders at each other and the festival is traditionally accompanied by dancing and singing. The event is typically celebrated in India and other southeast Asian countries. 

 Vijay Vyas is a first-year student who went to Holi with his friends. He said he’s grateful to see his culture represented at his university.

“It’s like an Indian tradition for everyone to come out on Holi and throw color on each other. It’s like a beginning of our friendship and bonding. You bring everyone together. It’s super fun,” Vyas said.

Attendees also had the chance to taste traditional cuisines and watch cultural dance performances.
