COVINGTON, Ky. — Booths lined up in Mainstrasse Village area on Sunday for Covington’s Christkindlmarkt. Executive Director of Renaissance Covington Nick Wade said the idea to the Covington Christkindlmarkt is to highlight local artists and entrepreneurs. He said a lot of German heritage lies in the Covington area.
“This is a great way for us to tie into our community culture and also support our local artists and entrepreneurs,” Wade said.
One booth at the event was Farm to Hangover. Susan Beresford, owner, said the Mainstrasse area in Covington represents the culture. She was selling some of her products, with the main event being her Bloody Mary Mix.
“I make it fresh! It’s all the produce that I grow on my urban farm and it goes into this,” she said.
Artwork, photography and other goods were also for sale at some of the different booths. People could enjoy live music and food while they shopped. Christkindlmarkt can be found in many areas throughout the holiday season, inspired from a 16th century outdoor German market. In today’s world, Wade said the goal is to make sure vendors have another way to make some money.
“The city loves to support public art and community vibrancy, and our local creatives are a big part of that,” he said.
Wade said the goal is to come back with Christkindlmarkt next year during the holiday season.
