Cincinnati Children’s Hospital Medical Center is now ranked the No. 1 Children’s Hospital in the nation by U.S. News and World Reports. It’s a prestigious recognition that the hospital is receiving for the first time in its history.

“I remember mentioning to some people that we could be number one and all it would take is a little bit more focus, a little bit more drive. And to believe that we could do it. That day is finally here,” said Steve Davis, Cincinnati Children’s Hospital CEO & president.

Davis is proud of his 18,000 staff members who made this accomplishment possible. He said it takes an exceptional team to help serve the 6,000 children they care for every day.

“I have never seen a group of talented care providers like we have here. It’s unbelievable,” he said. “I tell everybody I have the best job in the country.”

Only hospitals that provide the highest quality of care for children with the most serious or complicated medical conditions make the cut. This year Cincinnati Children’s officials said they focused heavily on patient outcomes, diversity training and patient safety.

“Those changes actually helped us to number one because we really excelled this year on our outcomes and on our diversity,” he said. “And that’s what makes us the number one hospital in the country.”

Nationwide Children’s Hospital also made the national list at number six. Both Cleveland Clinic Children’s Hospital and Rainbow Babies and Children’s Hospital were ranked number three on the Midwest regional list. Gov. Mike DeWine said it’s an honor for these hospitals to be recognized.

“To get the kind of care that parents get here at Cincinnati Children’s Hospital is frankly the greatest blessing that a parent can have,” said DeWine.

Besides being ranked number one, Cincinnati Children’s was also ranked number for its specialties in pediatric cancer, diabetes and endocrinology, urology and neonatology. But Davis said there’s more work to be done.

“We will continue to push for it will continue to innovate, will continue to improve until Cincinnati’s children are the healthiest in the world,” said Davis.
