CLEVELAND — The U.S. Senate has confirmed Bridget Brennan to the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of Ohio.
The court handles federal cases for 40 northern Ohio counties. The Northern District serves 6 million Ohioans and has courts in Akron, Cleveland, Toledo and Youngstown.
Brennan was confirmed by a 60-36.
Chales Fleming and David Ruiz are also facing an appointment to the bench. The Senate took a cloture vote of 55-41 for Fleming, which is a precursor toward his nomination.
Their appointments have the support of both Ohio U.S. senators, Democratic Sen. Sherrod Brown and Republican Sen. Rob Portman.
Since January 2021, Brennan has served as the acting U.S. Attorney for the Northern District. Prior to becoming an acting U.S. Attorney, she was the office’s first assistant from 2018 to 2021, chief of the Criminal Division from 2017 to 2018, chief of the Civil Rights Unit from 2015 to 2017, and ethics adviser from 2013 to 2018.
She has been with the U.S. Attorney’s Office since 2007.
After earning her law degree at Case Western Reserve University in 2000, she was an associate at Baker Hostetler LLP in Cleveland until 2007.
