MEDINA COUNTY, Ohio — The Cleveland Browns gave an update Tuesday evening on Myles Garrett after the defensive end was involved in a vehicle crash Monday afternoon.
Newly released body camera footage, provided by the Medina County Sheriff’s Office, shows Garrett being taken into an ambulance.
“Can you move? Is it a bicep tendon?” a first responder asks Garrett, in the video.
According to the Ohio State Highway Patrol, Garrett and a female passenger were heading southbound on State Road in Medina County near Sharon Copley Road Monday afternoon around 3 p.m. when his 2021 Porsche went off the road, flipped and landed in a ditch.
OSHP says Garrett, who lives in Medina County, and his passenger were both wearing seatbelts at the time of the crash and were taken to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. Garrett has since been released.
According to Garrett’s agent on Monday, Garrett didn’t break any bones in the crash.
On Tuesday, the Browns provided an update to Garrett’s condition saying:
“First—and most importantly—we are thankful that Myles, his passenger, and no other parties were seriously injured in the single-car accident yesterday. After a medical evaluation today, our team doctors at University Hospitals have concluded that Myles has sustained a shoulder sprain, biceps strain, minor lacerations, as well as some bumps and bruises to various other body parts.”
The Browns said that Myles didn’t suffer any fractures and has also cleared concussion protocol.
The team has yet to say if Garrett will play in Sunday’s game on Oct. 2 in Atlanta against the Falcons.
“Currently, our focus is on providing Myles the medical care needed for him to return to football activity. Although we hope to have him back soon, his availability for Sunday’s game in Atlanta will be evaluated by team doctors throughout the week,” the team said.
According to OSHP, neither alcohol nor drugs were factors in the crash.
In the body cam footage, Garrett is responsive, but appears to be in pain. Meanwhile, the video shows his female passenger in the background laying down with a first responder by her side.
A first responder then helps lift Garrett up on to his feet and walk him over to an ambulance.
Spectrum News also obtained 911 calls pertaining to the crash.
According to a 911 call from Porsche emergency services, the female passenger in Garrett’s car “injured her head.” A passerby in a separate 911 call says, regarding Garrett’s vehicle, “they flipped this thing, they tore it up.”
A Cleveland Browns spokesperson said Garrett had just left practice in Berea before the crash occurred.
OSHP is continuing to investigate the vehicle crash.
Garrett, 26, has played for the Browns since 2017. The Browns selected Garrett with the first overall pick in the NFL draft that year. Garrett ranked among the nation’s top five edge defenders in all three of his seasons at Texas A&M.
