Cleveland Clinic to offer free cancer screenings

CLEVELAND — The Cleveland Clinic will host an event on Oct. 22 to give the public a chance to get a free cancer screening. 

The free services will include mammograms (which will be performed on site), HPV tests, Pap tests, adult HPV vaccinations and other screenings, such as vision, pap, pelvic, lung, prostate and dental exams.

The event will go from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Cleveland Clinic Taussig Cancer Institute on Carnegie Avenue. Parking will be available at no cost in the 100th Street garage. Masks will be required. 

People with or without insurance are welcome to get a screening. Registration can be completed by emailing tassigcommoutreach@ccf.org or calling (216) 444-7505.

According to the American Cancer Society:

  • The cancer death rate for men and women combined fell 32% from its peak in 1991 to 2019
  • The risk of dying from prostate cancer has decreased .6% a year
  • Black women have a 41% higher chance of dying from breast cancer than white women
  • Since the mid-2000s, breast cancer incidence rates in females have slowly increased by around .5%
  • Of any major racial/ethnic group in the U.S., American Indians and Alaska Natives have the highest liver cancer incidence rate
  • In almost every cancer type, Black people have a lower cancer survival rate than white people
  • In 2022, there will be about 1.9 million new cancer cases diagnosed and 609,360 cancer deaths in the U.S.
