CLEVELAND — The Cleveland Public Library hosted a safety and health education fair for kids on Thursday afternoon.

Children and families stopped by the fair to learn about Cleveland organizations and how they help the community.
Whitney Johnson, a children’s librarian for Cleveland Public Library, explained the event.
“We are having our CLE Connect program for kids and this program is to connect kids with just the different resources and things in their area,” she said.
Some of the organizations in attendance were Cleveland Water, Cleveland Metroparks, the Cleveland Clinic and both the Cleveland Police Department and Cleveland Fire Department.
Diana Trent, Public Services Associate for Cleveland Public Library, wanted to make sure the kids connected with public safety officials.
“Just putting them in connection with different people in the community, especially the police and fire department,” she said.
The kids were able to meet community organizations, enjoy music and eat ice cream. Johnson spoke about what she wanted the kids to look back on after the event.
“We want them to have fun so when they think about this experience, when they think about the Cleveland police, when they think about the Metroparks, when they think about Cleveland Water. We want them to think fun, this was a great experience we want them to be able to talk about what happened here and think about it later on,” she said.
Johnson said the Cleveland Public Library is more than just a place to read or research.
“We are a lot. We have a lot of things going on and this Cleveland community has a lot of stuff going on and it’s right here in your backyard,” she said.
The Cleveland Public Library has also hosted the Community Immunity Bus Tour, which gave out Covid-19 vaccinations, along with many childrens programs. Organizers hope to continue to put on more events to further educate and help the community.
