CLEVELAND — The Cleveland Department of Public Health, the Greater Cleveland Regional Transit Authority and the Cleveland Public Library partnered together to bring vaccines to the people of Cleveland.
The groups will host the RTA Community Immunity Bus Tour, which starts next Tuesday and runs through November. It provides vaccines to people at various Cleveland Public Library locations.
The tour also gives northeast Ohioans the chance to check out different programming that the library offers. Natoya Walker-Minor from the Greater Cleveland Regional Transit Authority is excited about the partnership.
“Literacy is also a big challenge in our community, and so marrying those two together—literacy, the social terms of health, access through public transit—it’s a good way for us to put all of that together through this partnership and reach those in our community,” she said.
Michael Dalby, the regional director of the West at Cleveland Public Library, understands that literacy goes beyond just reading.
“It’s literacy, financial literacy, and in this case, health literacy. We are here to eliminate barriers, provide access as much as we can to people of the community—not only information but services,” he said.
This bus tour will provide members of the Cleveland community access to essential health needs as well as expand their knowledge about their health and education.
