CLEVELAND — Cleveland Mayor Justin Bibb announced the city will go under a snow emergency parking ban starting at 6 p.m. Wednesday that will run through 8 a.m. Friday.

What You Need To Know

  • Up to a foot of snow could fall in the Cleveland area from Wednesday evening through Friday morning
  • The City of Cleveland will begin a snow emergency parking ban starting 6 p.m. Wednesday
  • Cars that remain parked along designated snow emergency streets could be towed or ticketed
  • The city has developed a new snow removal plan after facing criticism following a storm that hit the region two weeks ago

Bibb said that cars parked on designated snow emergency streets are subject to being towed or ticketed.

“We ask that residents move their car so crews can begin pre-treatment and salting of the streets,” Bibb said.

Bibb said the city has adjusted its snow removal plan following the winter storm that struck the area during the Martin Luther King Jr. Day weekend. The city faced criticism from residents that it took several days to remove snow from residential streets.

Bibb said the city has revised its plan in order to deploy more plows into residential neighborhoods.

“We learned from the last storm that our residential streets need to be serviced earlier before completion of the main streets,” Bibb said on Wednesday. “We will have additional plow trucks dedicated to the residential areas while the remaining trucks clear the main streets.”

Since the last winter storm, the city has launched a website for residents to track the progress of snow removal through Cleveland.

Bibb added that the city is working with RTA and the Cleveland Alliance to clear crosswalks and bus stops.

According to the National Weather Service, 8-12 inches of snow is expected for the area starting Wednesday evening through Friday morning. The Cleveland area goes under a winter storm warning starting at 7 p.m. Wednesday.
