CLEVELAND — The City of Cleveland said West Side Market will be closed Wednesday due to an elevator outage.

The West Side Market has been plagued with malfunctions and issues in the past. In July, the market was closed due to an electrical malfunction.

Newly-elected Mayor Justin Bibb campaigned on making improvements to the West Side Market a priority. On Jan. 6, days after taking office, Bibb met with vendors of the market.

Bibb’s meeting with vendors brought some optimism among those who sell at the market.

The 110-year-old market has nearly 100 vendors and is open five days a week. The city said it expects the market to reopen Friday.
