MAPLE HEIGHTS, Ohio — George and Ruth Coates have a passion for helping others. That’s the reason why they stopped by a coat giveaway in Maple Heights.

”We came to get things for those who aren’t able. I came to pick up some coats for some senior citizens who aren’t able to come out,” said Ruth Coates.
The giveaway is a joint partnership between Gary Robinson, the principal of Castle East High School, where the event took place, and a few city council members.
“As you can see, we have a ton of coats here. We also have children’s clothes. We also have professional attire for young adults looking for employment,” said Robinson.
Robinson said the need in the community is great and they wanted to be sure the giveaway would meet several needs, including food.
“We have milk and food bags from the food bank that we’re giving out,” said Robinson.
This isn’t the first time the principal and council members worked together to bring supplies to residents.
“We did it in November, the last Saturday in November, and it went so well, I mean, by 15 minutes, just about everything was gone,” said Councilwoman Dana Anderson of the Maple Heights District 4.
Robinson and Anderson said the community is grateful for the effort.
“The response has been great. They’ve been really appreciative. Just this morning one lady was saying that she couldn’t believe that we were doing something like this and that she thought that this was awesome just to give back without them having to give something,” said Anderson.
