CINCINNATI – A day after his big win, newly minted congressman-elect Greg Landman isn’t completely focused on his new job just yet.

Landsman said he still has work to do on Cincinnati’s City Council in the meantime.

What You Need To Know

  • Congressman-elect Greg Landsman said he’ll finish out his term on Cincinnati City Council through the end of the year
  • Landsman is expected to take his seat in Congress in Washington D.C. in January
  • He said he’ll be focused on infrastructure, abortion rights, voting rights and the economy

There was a packed house cheering on Landsman as he made his victory speech, claiming the seat he won in the House of Representatives.

Before he goes to Washington D.C. to make decisions, he’s going back to where his political career started, the Cincinnati City Council.

Landsman, a former teacher, has been a city council member for the last five years.

“We have, you know, a whole host of things to get done by the end of the year, including residential tax abatement reform,” said Landsman.

Landsman said he decided to make the giant leap to congress after the attacks at the U.S. Capitol following the 2020 election.

“January 6th was just too much for me. I just could not stand by and have somebody represent my community that tried to overturn the election,” said Landsman.

He said that’s when the campaigning began. He got more than 25,000 voters to donate to the campaign and enough votes to unseat long-time Republican Rep. Steve Chabot.

When Landsman takes his spot in congress at the beginning of the year, he said he’ll be working on things like infrastructure, voting rights, abortion rights and the economy.

He says you can expect to see a different kind of congressman.

“I’m not going to do the partisan stuff, you know, and all of the other nonsense that I know voters are tired of. They want us all to rise above it and work together. and so that’s what they can expect from me and that’s what I’m going to expect from them,” said Landsman.
