COLUMBUS, Ohio — The Columbus Crew will sign one of the club’s all-time greats to a one-day contract Saturday ahead of the Black and Gold’s match against Nashville.

What You Need To Know

  • Federico Higuain will sign a one-day contract and retire with the Crew
  • He is among the franchise’s all-time leaders in games played, goals and assists
  • He played for the Crew from 2012-19 before finishing his playing career with D.C. United and Inter Miami
  • Higuain is ineligible to join the club’s Ring of Honor as the Crew did not win a major trophy during his tenure

Federico Higuain finished his tenure as the club’s all-time leader in regular-season assists (63) and game-winning assists (20), while also ranking third in the Crew’s all-time regular-season goals scored list (55) and fourth in game-winning goals (12). He will retire upon signing his contract with the Crew, ending his career with Columbus.

Pregame events are set to include a ceremonial first kick taken by Higuain’s three children. Following the ceremonial first kick, a recognition for Higuain will be conducted at midfield, the Crew said.

Higuain will also sign autographs prior to Saturday’s game.

Higuain was a member of the Crew from 2012-19 before an injury derailed his final season in Columbus. He started the 2020 season with D.C. United before closing out his playing career with Inter Miami in 2020 and 2021 where he teamed with brother Gonzalo Higuain.
