TROTWOOD, Ohio — She’s been called ‘the crockpot lady.’ Now she’s using her crockpot and some simple recipes to try to bring families together.
For Eva Wells, cooking is what she often does to remember the feeling of family.
“I’ve always loved cooking, and I was always in the kitchen with my grandmother and my aunts,” said Wells.
That’s why she started volunteering to help get food to families in need and, at the same time, she had an idea that would help even more families.
“I’m listening to everyone complain about making a meal in the evening. So I thought, oh my, this is simple. Let’s make a one-pot meal,” said Wells.
It wasn’t long before she became known as the ‘Crockpot Lady’
For the last four years, she’s been teaching cooking classes through the nonprofit group Homefull.
“Put everything in the crock pot. Turn your back. You can multitask on other things,” said Wells.
She’s also received grant money to give out crock pots to hungry families, in hopes of bringing more together.
“Mom and Dad need to enjoy the evening with their children. I want them to sit down and have a family meal and have family conversation again,” said Wells.
