The Browns are still uncertain if Quarterback Deshawn Watson will be suspended.

Myles Garrett, Nick Chubb and Gregory Newsome all spoke about the upcoming season. Garrett and Newsome both said they are blocking out the Watson noise and focused on forming a team ready for game day.

“We kind of just got to focus on us getting ready for the season and obviously we hope Watson is there week one,” Newsome said. “If he’s not, we’ve got guys that are going to be able to step in and play around.”

Head coach Kevin Stefanski confirmed Jacoby Brissett is the backup quarterback, and will step up if Watson cannot play.

“Jacoby is our backup quarterback,” said Stefanski. “If DeShaun is unavailable, Jacoby is the starter.”

Regardless of who is under center, the Browns will look for others to step up. Newsome said he is ready to do just that.

“I just think as a group and how I feel like we got a lot of leaders out there, honestly. So I definitely want to be more of a leader this year, and that’s something that I’m preparing on doing,” said Newsome.

Stefanski acknowledged that there are a lot of unanswered questions surrounding Watson but, he said they have a plan in place and are focused right now on what they can control.

“I think we have a plan and we’ll see what information comes available. But certainly more information may adjust what we’re doing,” said Stefanski.

Stefanski and his team are forging ahead as game one is less than seven weeks away.
