CLEVELAND — The Diocese of Cleveland announced Monday updated COVID-19 protocols as virus case rates drop in the region.

Bishop Edward Malesic issued the following guidelines:

  • Signs may be removed from the church regarding the request to wear masks
  • The mandate requiring masks to be worn during the distribution of Holy Communion is lifted
  • Distribution of the Precious Blood to the congregation remains prohibited until further notice
  • Concelebrants should use the intinction method or individual chalices should be provided

Malesic said that those who are immunocompromised, sick or anxious about the virus are not obligated to attend services.

“Encourage your parishioners to stay connected to information coming from medical and other experts, and to stay home and get tested for COVID when not feeling well,” Malesic said. “Following these recommendations will go a long way in helping to keep our people safe.”
