DUBLIN, Ohio – Over the last 34 years, Jeanette Paras has painted the faces of nearly 100 celebrities, politicians, rock stars and athletes on oversized pumpkins.
She’s a big fan of “Game of Thrones” and its prequel, “House of the Dragon.”
So when she saw Kim Kardashian and James Corden together in a skit on Corden’s “Late, Late Show” called “The Targashians,” she knew the celebrities had to be “pumpkinized” and placed on display at her home this year.
“Everybody loves giant pumpkins and giant celebrity pumpkins,” said Paras. “They really like it. It really gives me joy.”
While the pumpkin art is inspired by Halloween, October is also breast cancer awareness month.
Last year, Paras, a two-time breast cancer survivor, mother and wife, paired up with the Stefanie Spielman Fund for Breast Cancer Research to raise $6,000, a number she hopes to reach again this year.
“One out of eight women are going to get breast cancer. That is a lot,” said Paras. “Everybody that you know and that I’m sure you know has been touched by breast cancer by either a family member, a friend, or themselves. So it’s such a worthy cause.”
Paras said all the local, national and international attention she’s received throughout the years is special.
But she said it’s about bringing a smile to the face of complete strangers.
“It’s people’s reactions that is so funny. It’s really funny too when somebody says ‘Oh my gosh, what are you doing on the news in Denver, Colorado,’ or, you know, ‘I saw you in San Diego’ and it’s just kind of cool,” said Paras.
