CLEVELAND — The Price is Right is the longest-running game show in television history, and fans in northeast Ohio got a chance to help celebrate.

  • The Price Is Right 50th Anniversary nationwide Come On Down Tour stopped in Cleveland for fans to experience the show in-person
  • Cleveland is show host Drew Carey’s hometown
  • Show announcer George Gray, the iconic wheel and Plinko games were on-site for fans to play

The Price is Right is honoring 50 years as a highly rated daytime network series with a 50-stop nationwide tour.

Getting a chance to spin “the big wheel” was a big deal to Seth Daughtery, 19, a fan of the show.

He went from dressing up for Halloween as a kid as current host Drew Carey to getting the chance to experience the TV show he’s been watching since he was 4 years old.

“It’s nice seeing other people win and the smiles on their faces when they win a new car or a refrigerator, really anything,” he said. “It’s just really nice to see that.”

It’s something he and his mom, Nicole, can enjoy together and continue a family tradition.

“My grandma always watched it, so I watched it since I was a kid and he’s [Seth’s] always liked it,” she said. “I don’t know. It’s just something you watch for generations.”

The Come on Down Tour stopped by the West Side Market in Cleveland on Friday to give fans the opportunity to let the Plinko chips fall and win prizes, just like on the show.

Sisters Winnie Weaver and Carol Williams both walked home winners.

“It’s fantastic,” said Weaver.

“It’s a dream come true because everyone watches these shows,” said Williams.

“And you want to be on them,” added Weaver.

Hundreds of people didn’t let the weather dampen their chances to see announcer George Gray and the games in person.

“A little rain, but that’s OK,” said Williams. “This is Cleveland, Ohio.”

Michael Kim passed on his love for the show to his son, William.

“I’ve been a Price is Right fan since I was 4 years old, so 50 years, and I’ve always wanted to do this,” Michael said. “So, this is incredible.”

He won the Showcase Showdown and the father-son team now has plans to head to Los Angeles to see the show in-person.

“It’s been my lifetime dream to spin the wheel, meet George Gray, play Plinko,” William said. “It’s my dream come true.”
