Father-Son duo bring new outdoor ice rink to Dublin park

DUBLIN, Ohio — The winter season is in full swing, and with it comes the opportunity for outdoor fun across the Buckeye State. A new rink has popped up in the heart of Dublin just in time thanks to the father-son duo behind Out of the Box Enterprises.

“Me and my dad are the two kind of spearheading things,” said operations director Zak Sholckley. “We’ve opened four rinks in the Cleveland area and thought it was time to get down to central Ohio”

The pair’s newest ice rink is located in Dublin’s Riverside Crossing Park and is outfitted with cooling equipment capable of operating in temperatures as high as 60 degrees Fahrenheit.

The 3,200-square-foot rink adds to the numerous restaurants, shops and attractions in the area. City officials said adding a new rink to the city was always a part of the master plan.

“It brings a lot of opportunities for people to get outside during the winter months and get some exercise, some fresh air and certainly have a good time,” said Matt Earman, director of parks and recreation. “Certainly, from an economics standpoint, we hope it will bring people from outside of Dublin to Dublin to visit the city and experience what we have to offer.”

The Riverside Crossing rink costs $10 per person, which includes skate rentals. The new rink will be in operation through mid-March, Friday through Sunday.

Out of The Box Enterprises is also is in charge of Cleveland area rinks at Wade Oval, Crocker Park, Downtown Public Square, as well as a rink located in the city of Cuyahoga Falls.
