SUNBURY, Ohio — Getting back to the basics—that’s the idea behind Glass Rooster Cannery. Owner Jeannie Seabrook believes understanding what goes in a product is just as important as the item itself.

What You Need To Know

  • At Glass Rooster Cannery, a sustainable farm and event venue, guests can learn how to make a variety of goods
  • Each soap-making class takes guests through the process from start to finish
  • To book a class, go to the Glass Rooster Cannery website

“I think it is important for people to understand their world and to live a life that is respectful to our earth,” said Seabrook. “Part of that is to understand why you do what you do.”

At Glass Rooster Cannery, a sustainable farm and event venue, Seabrook teaches guests how to make a variety of goods, from bread to handmade soap.

“Generally, the business model is everything fun,” said Seabrook. “If it is not fun we just don’t do it anymore.”

Each soap-making class takes guests through the process from start to finish for a hands-on activity with a drop of science.

“A lot of the soaps that you purchase can’t call themselves soaps, they call them hand bars,” said Seabrook. “You’re not allowed to call a product soap unless you used lye in your soap.”

Seabrook started Glass Rooster with her late sister Susie, a glass artist, whose work now decorates the property.

“Everybody needs a Susie in their world,” said Seabrook. “Somebody who believes in them so much that they are willing to put their world on the line for you and that’s what Susie did for me.”

With her sister in mind, Seabrook works to bring simpler days back to life one class at a time. To book a class, go to the Glass Rooster Cannery website, there you will also find information on their event space, catering and canned goods.
