EAST PALESTINE, Ohio — Ohio Gov. Mike DeWine announced Wednesday that there will be a permanent health clinic in East Palestine.
On Capitol Hill on Wednesday during a Senate hearing, DeWine testified virtually from the East Palestine High School library.
“We’ve worked out an arrangement with East Liverpool City Hospital, and they’re going to come in and work with us on this. We’re very, very excited about it,” he said. “We think it’s going to improve the quality of life, and it’s going to answer some of the questions that people have raised — what am I going to do in the future or what am I doing now?”
The location for the new clinic has not been announced yet, but DeWine said this clinic will be in East Palestine for the long term.
“They need to have some assurance that they can go in now and get checked, but then they can have a baseline established, and then years ahead, they can go in maybe every single year and get checked,” he said.
The governor said the clinic will have the tools needed for diagnosis, monitoring and treatment.
”It’s going to be a very extensive clinic,” he said.
Misti Allison, an East Palestine resident, got the chance to testify on Wednesday. Allison said this new clinic is much needed.
“I think that having this long-term health care clinic where you can actually get your medical needs assessed and taken care of is a really big win,” Allison said.
