Hamilton student athletes named southwest Ohio Week 4 Scholar Athletes

HAMILTON, Ohio — Two student athletes from Hamilton High School were recognized as Week 4 Scholar Athletes of the Week.

Cooper Matthews is a three-year varsity basketball player for Hamilton High School, and was named to the all-conference second team in the 2021-22 season. He also was fifth in the league in scoring with nearly 15 points per game.

He was described as “a great representative of Hamilton High School as a student and an athlete,” while looking to lead the Big Blue this winter after having a great summer of basketball.

In the classroom, Matthews has a 3.571 grade-point average.

Jaycee Taylor is a three-year varsity softball player for the Big Blue, playing third base, earning first-team honors in 2021 and second-team honors in 2022.

She led the team in RBIs (31) last season and was second in batting average (.471), also landing in the top 20 in both categories for the league.

Taylor was described as “a great representative of Hamilton High School as a student and an athlete,” while carrying a 3.623 GPA in the classroom.
