Harold weakens into a tropical depression

After making landfall over Padre Island on Tuesday morning as a tropical storm, Harold continues to weaken as it moves inland. It is now a tropical depression as it tracks farther west across South Texas, bringing heavy rain and gusty winds.

Harold became the eighth named storm of the 2023 Atlantic hurricane season at 1 a.m. CT on Aug. 22.

It made landfall over Padre Island, Texas on Tuesday morning, but has since moved farther west. Harold is currently near Laredo, Texas, producing maximum sustained winds of 35 mph.

Heavy rain from Harold will continue to spread farther inland, eventually moving into West Texas by Wednesday morning.

Some showers and storms could make it into Central Texas, but again, most of the rain will stay confined to southern Texas. 

All Tropical Storm Warnings have been discontinued as of 5 p.m. Tuesday.
