CLEVELAND — The Basch family has been in the jewelry business for decades, perfecting and selling precious pieces at their flagship store in Macedonia. It’s something that’s been passed down to Dustin Basch from his father.

What You Need To Know

  • In northeast Ohio, runners are gearing up for the Cleveland Marathon, which takes place this weekend
  • More than 8,000 people submitted entries, including a group of brothers who own a family business and are running for a meaningful reason: Their mother
  • The marathon course will take runners by many landmarks, including the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, FirstEnergy Stadium, Progressive Field, Rocket Mortgage Fieldhouse, the West Side Market and Playhouse Square

“Starting from a basement to a basement of an office building to visibility here on Route 82 and now the ultimate goal of building your own free-standing store is really exciting,” Basch said.

The family’s other shared passions, physical fitness and sports, come from their mother.

“My mom played softball when she was nine months pregnant. She played a lot of different sports, loved athletics,” Basch said.

This weekend, they’re excited to combine the two. The business has been chosen as the official jeweler of the Union Home Mortgage Cleveland Marathon, creating a series of pendants. Designs include details such as the Cleveland skyline or bold “CLE” lettering and they can be customized with race time and distances.

They’re also paying tribute to their late mother, Denise, by running the marathon’s 10L event. The Basch family has run many races, including the Cleveland Marathon, in the past, but Basch said each step taken in this marathon will be for his mother.

“Her biggest thing was family, and we always did things together. So, I think she would be excited about that. All of us are going to be there,” he said.
