“My dad owned Jimmy’s Jawbreaker Drive-In and my mother came to work for him as a car hop. She lived in Logan. She was 19 years old and the love story began,” said Mast.

Even when her parents decided to retire, she took the reigns and has worked every Fairfield County Fair since 1989, showcasing the family’s iconic special recipe sauce.

“My dad thought I was crazy. He said, ‘you know, I’ll have your mother make the sauce.’ They wouldn’t even give me the recipe to the sauce, which is a cooked sauce. It’s sweet, so you get the salty, the sweet, the crunchy. It comes one way. It’s a cheeseburger with American cheese, lettuce, tomato, another hamburger and the special cooked sauce on a grilled five-inch sesame seed bun,” said Mast.

Although both of Mast’s parents are now gone, their legacy lives on through the Fairfield County Fair.

“It’s just fun, old memories and good times with your friends. It’s like a family reunion. We wrap it like this, with a trifold, so all the sauce and dripping can go to the bottom. But we prefer that it ends up on their shirts because then they become our walking advertising. When somebody goes, ‘ew what’s all over your shirt,’ and they go ‘Jimmy’s Jawbreaker sauce,’” said Mast.
