CINCINNATI — After a day full of questioning, a jury was sworn in Friday for the federal government’s case against Larry Householder and Matt Borges.

Householder and Borges are charged with racketeering, accused of taking more than $60 million in bribes from First Energy.

Twelve jurors and four alternates from a pool of 52 candidates were chosen, based on their responses to Judge Timothy Black and lawyers for the two sides.

They were asked about personal conflicts and concerns they had about being on the jury. Nearly a dozen prospective jurors said they knew about the case, and a handful of them were either related to one another, worked together or knew each other from school. 

Opening arguments will start at 10 a.m. on Monday, Jan. 23. The trial is expected to last six weeks.
