DAYTON, Ohio — February 17th marks ‘National Random Acts of Kindness’ day. It’s a holiday designed to get more people to show kindness, but one Dayton area woman, known as the ‘Kindness Lady’, has been doing that all along.

What You Need To Know

  • Anne Sheehan is also known as the “Kindness Lady” for her efforts to spread kindness
  • For the last few years, she’s been sending handwritten notes, and giving out cards to people she notices doing random acts of kindness
  • She started the Acts of Kindness Club (AOK) in Dayton and hopes to spread her message of kindness into schools

Anne Sheehan had one goal.

“My goal had been to distribute 50k within a year, then it got to 40k and it stopped because of COVID,” said Sheehan.

She’s going back after her goal again and is trying to send out as many kindness cards as she can, and you can only get one if you’re caught in the act.

“When a young man opens the door for me, he immediately gets a card,” Sheehan said. “I’ve given people cards because they smile and say hello.”

It’s her way to get more people to help and to go up against things like bullying, happening from the youngest kids to the elderly.

“I just think, wouldn’t it be wonderful if we could all show more kindness on a daily basis and have a positive attitude because I think our country needs it,” said Sheehan.

It’s the reason the retired grandma got to work. She started Acts of Kindness Club in Dayton. She has been sending the cards to groups and schools so they could hand them out too.

“It’s a very easy thing to do almost you as giving it get more back for giving it because you made someone feel so good,” said Sheehan.

In fact, she has dozens of thank-you notes and cards from people who know her as just the “Kindness Lady.”

“They make me cry because it’s connecting people,” said Sheehan. “I challenge everybody to just try it. Kindness doesn’t cost anything, it really doesn’t.”
