COLUMBUS, Ohio — Gov. Mike DeWine is set to deliver his State of the State address, outlining his fiscal budget plan for 2024-25. During his inauguration, the Governor identified education, mental health, prison reform, and expanding broadband internet as some of his top priorities.

Lt. Gov. Jon Husted spoke about what can be expected from the next fiscal budget.

What You Need To Know

  • The State-of-the-State Address will be delivered Tuesday afternoon
  • Gov. DeWine will announce the fiscal budget
  • They have plans to target mental health, the economy and much more

“I think you’re going to see the continuation of the agenda that we’ve been promoting for Ohio for the last several years,” Husted said.

This includes tax cuts, more than one billion dollars for economic growth and a new school funding formula.

The governor’s last budget included tax cuts, more than one billion dollars for economic growth, and a new school funding formula. This week, DeWine and Husted announced new projects to create $588 million in investments, which could create 683 new jobs.

Regulatory reform will be a top priority in this budget, according to the Governor.

“One-third of the Ohio Administrative Code, the regulations in the state of Ohio will be eliminated in this budget,” DeWine said. “We’re doing this by using actual artificial intelligence to go through the code.”

This will help Ohioans by removing costs associated with understanding the code.

Expanding internet access is another top priority for the Governor.

The Department of Development will seek 2.15 billion dollars for 2024 and 1.24 billion dollars for 2025.

“It’s a speech and a budget designed to look at all of Ohio to find out every way we can and help get people off the bench and into the game,” Husted said.
