Queen Elizabeth II, the longest-reigning monarch in British history, died Sept. 8 at the age of 96. Her son, King Charles III, has assumed the throne after seven decades as heir apparent. Crowds of thousands have waited in line in London — some as long as 16 hours or more — to pay their respects to the queen ahead of her state funeral Monday.
