CLEVELAND — Max S. Hayes High School hosted its first trade show Thursday morning.

The goal was to showcase what students learned throughout the year and highlight the school’s career-tech programs and partnerships with employers.

The Friends of Max S. Hayes High School put the event on.

Since 2010, the Cleveland Metropolitan School District organization has aimed to help young people find fulfilling careers in the construction, manufacturing and transportation sectors.

CMSD’s CEO and a representative from Mayor Justin Bibb’s administration and city council spoke about the importance of the trades.

More than 500 high school students in grades freshman through senior attend Max S. Hayes and have opportunities for project-based and hands-on learning.

“We really do need younger people in the trades, all of the trades. We need more diversity. We want more women in the trades and we want more people of color in the trades and something that’s near and dear to my heart is I want more Clevelanders to be working in the trades,” said Keith Laschinger, executive director of the Friends of Max S. Hayes High School.

Max S. Hayes students leave high school with a diploma and entry level skills to get a job in various trades.
