McPherson made 9 of 11 field goals and 8 of 9 point-after attempts for 35 total points in December, tied for the most among kickers in the AFC.

During December, McPherson converted two 50-yard field goals during December, adding to his NFL-leading nine field goals in 2021 of 50 or more yards. His total is also the second-most all-time by a rookie kicker, trailing only Blair Walsh with 10 in 2012.

One of McPherson’s 50-plus yard field goals in December included a successful 58-yard field goal as time expired in the first half versus Denver in Week 15. The kick gave the Bengals the halftime lead and was a franchise record for Cincinnati.

It is the first Special Teams Player of the Month award for McPherson who is the first rookie kicker since Harrison Butker, who won the award in October and December 2017, to win the award.

Also during his rookie season, McPherson was named AFC Special Teams Player of the Week in weeks 1 and 11.

His most recent award comes the same week his teammate, quarterback Joe Burrow, was named AFC Offensive Player of the Week, FedEx Air Player of the Week and Nickelodeon NVP.

McPherson was selected by Bengals in the fifth round of the 2021 NFL Draft.
