FOSTORIA, Ohio — The Ohio State Highway Patrol is investigating the cause of a plane crash that killed two people in Seneca County late Tuesday night.

The single-engine Piper Saratoga was traveling from Illinois to Findlay, Ohio, when it crashed shortly before 11 p.m. in a wooded area near Crestview Drive in Loudon Township, according to officials.

After reports of the possible plane crash, authorities responded to the scene and found two people dead on arrival.

Officials identified the deceased as Shane Halbrook, 59, of Avon, Ind, who was the pilot, and Michael Wright, 51, of Casey, Ill.

Both men were former officers with the Indiana Air National Guard, authorities said.

Halbrook was a retired colonel who last served as the Indiana Air National Guard’s director of staff, according to the guard.

Wright was a major who was with 181st Communication Flight, 181st Intelligence Wing at Hulman Field Air National Guard Base in Indiana before he transferred to the Air Force Reserve at Scott Air Force Base in Illinois, the guard said.

OSHP is still investigating the cause of the crash.
