CLEVELAND — David Brock said his love for the city of Cleveland led him to become civically-involved at a young age.

What You Need To Know

  • New Cuyahoga County Democratic Party Chair David Brock said he is excited about the county’s possibilities
  • The position, previously held by Rep. Shontel Brown, is elected by the Cuyahoga County Democratic Party Central Committee members
  • Brock said he will focus on voter outreach in an effort to elect more Democrats countywide

“You can’t just talk about it; you have to do something, and for me, funneling that toward political activities and electing good leaders and good Democrats was the best way to do that,” Brock said.

Brock is the newest chair of The Cuyahoga County Democratic Party. He said his focus will be on voter outreach in an effort to elect more Democrats countywide. He also hopes to have an impact on Democratic races statewide.

He said getting out into the community and engaging voters was at the core of his campaign. The position, previously held by Rep. Shontel Brown, is elected by the Cuyahoga County Democratic Party Central Committee members.

“The voters have to feel like the Democratic party cares about them, cares about them as individuals, cares about them in groups, whether it be racial groups, whether it be labor groups. Whatever it is, that the Democratic party is going to have my back. There’s going to be a presence that will be somewhat new, more robust and energized than there has been,” Brock said.

He said he’s hopeful that with Cleveland having a Democratic mayor, and the possibility of Democrat Chris Ronayne winning the county executive seat in November, the party will be able to effectively address the issues of those in the Cleveland, the county and beyond.

“The fact that we could have three new, sort of energized positions just in a matter of a year with the mayor of Cleveland, the chair of the party and the county executive provides endless possibilities,” Brock said.

Spectrum News 1 reached out to the Cuyahoga County Republican Party to ask for a comment on the change in Democratic party leadership, but haven’t heard back.
