ELYRIA, Ohio — Stephen Gettis is the president of The Ambassador Brothers, a Lorain County Community Organization of 15 men who help people in need. And that need has been growing since the pandemic began.

What You Need To Know

  • 15 members are mentoring children in Lorain County
  • They host several events a year to help families in the community
  • One of their goals is to create a positive image for people of color

“With COVID, we expect to have people in need so we are working now to be more proactive to make sure we can take care (of) who applies,” Gettis said.

The group’s mission is to empower people throughout Lorain County through community events and presenting a positive image for men of color.

Just last week, the Ambassador Brothers organized the Lorain County Youth Brigade in Audubon Park in Elyra.

“You see the flowers kind of grow, if you will, after putting in the work with these children and seeing them so well,” said Ethan West of Ambassador Brothers.
Besides beautifying Lorain County neighborhoods, the organization tries to mentor young men and sometimes women, too.

“We created some events so we can impact the community whether it would be our father-daughter dance, our basketball league event or our prime signature event, our holiday party, in which we give away gifts to like 50 to 60 kids. We provide them with a Christmas, a Christmas meal and actual Christmas gifts they can unwrap or take home and open on Christmas Day,” Gettis said.
