NEWPORT, Ky. — Butch Carpenter was operating Guns Up Bar B Q Grill through the weekend in Newport. Carpenter said he’s been cooking for years and now ends up a vendor at different food festivals.

What You Need To Know

  • Smoke on the River BBQ Fest took place May 13-15, 2022
  • This was the festival’s second year held
  • People could come try delicious food, drinks, and listen to some music
  • Guns Up Bar B Q Grill was one of the vendors

“We have a different name for a different booth because we serve different foods and we try to be in coordination with whatever event that we’re working,” Carpenter said.

This time, the booth they were working was part of the Smoke on The River BBQ Fest, a three day festival.

Organizers said this is the second year the three day festival has been held but it’s the first year they held it in Newport.

“It’s great. We’ve got vendors from all across the tristate—southern Indiana, Northern Kentucky, and then the Cincinnati area as well—and they all have special menus for this event with dishes they’ve created,” David Wertheim said.

Wertheim said they’re hoping to continue bringing the BBQ back to northern Kentucky each year.

“This will hopefully be going for the foreseeable future- certainly next year and for more years to come,” he said.

He said another event to get ready for is the Italian fest in June.
