CLEVELAND — It’s the 17th anniversary for the Father’s Walk, an event that shines a light on the importance of male role models in the lives of children by inviting fathers and other male mentors to walk children to school.

What You Need To Know

  • The Father’s Walk has been a state-wide event for 17 years
  • Dozens of father figures participated in the event at Wade Park school in Cleveland
  • Fathers were treated to breakfast and given access to parenting resources

In Cleveland, at Wade Park School, dozens of fathers and children were greeted by a crowd of various law enforcement agencies who all cheered and clapped for them as they walked into the building.

Cqualif Hawkins and his son participated in this event for their second year in a row.

“Just to give them that extra motivation and extra support to let them know that we are there to be by their side, we are at their front, back you know everywhere throughout their life,” Hawkins said. “A lot of people believe that it’s only until the age of 18 that you are with your child but it’s a forever thing, and it’s good to give them this support.”

Once inside the school, the fathers enjoyed breakfast with their students, where there were also resources set up with information that can help parents.
