Ohio State professor discusses global impact on World Malaria Day

COLUMBUS, Ohio — April 25 is World Malaria Day, recognized by the World Health Organization as a chance to bring awareness to the need for malaria treatment and prevention across the world.

According to the Centers for Disease Control, malaria caused 627,000 deaths in 2020 and roughly half of the global population lives in areas where transmission remains a risk.

Spectrum News spoke with Dr. Mark Drew, an assistant professor and director of graduate education for microbial infection and immunity at Ohio State University, about the challenges of this disease and its global impact.
