HAMILTON, Ohio — The parents of a 10-year-old boy who died of complications from cancer opened up a toy story named after him to honor his memory.

What You Need To Know

  • Oliver’s Toy Chest recently opened in Hamilton this month
  • His father, David Robbins, said he and his son talked about having a toy store before Oliver passed away in 2021
  • Everything in the store is some of Oliver’s favorite toys from the 90s

“He loved ninja turtles,” said Robbins.

Robbins said each toy inside the Hamilton store is a small reminder of the reason they wanted to open a toy store.

“Me and Oliver was throwing around ideas of starting a toy store while he was there,” said Robbins.

Oliver passed away at 10-years-old before they could open the store.

“Even when they were taking him off life support, I thought there was that chance he would breathe on his own. He didn’t,” said Robbins.

He said Oliver died from complications from a bone marrow transplant while he was battling leukemia.

“It was absolutely horrid. It was a nightmare. It was a nightmare, but you keep hoping everything’s gonna get better,” said Robbins.

Every day for the last seven months since his son died, he said he looks at pictures and videos to keep his son’s memory alive and hopes Oliver’s Toy Chest will do the same.

“It means everything to me, just to hear people say ‘Oliver’s Toy Chest.’ I always wanna keep his name relevant, and I want to keep his picture out there, and when I hear someone say ‘Oliver’s Toy Chest,’ honestly, it just melts my heart,” said Robbins.
