President Biden plans to address the recent spread of the omicron COVID variant on Tuesday.

White House Press Secretary Jen Psaki said on Twitter that Biden plans to detail new measures to help communities in need deal with the surge in COVID cases, deaths and hospitalizations.

“We are prepared for the rising case levels, and @POTUS will detail how we will respond to this challenge. He will remind Americans that they can protect themselves from severe illness from COVID-19 by getting vaccinated and getting their booster shot when they are eligible,” she tweeted.

Thursday, President Biden encouraged the nation to get COVID vaccinations and boosters to stay safe from the virus.

“For the unvaccinated, we are looking at a winter of severe illness and death for the unvaccinated — for themselves, their families and the hospitals they’ll soon overwhelm. But there’s good news: If you’re vaccinated and you have your booster shot, you’re protected from severe illness and death,” he said.

Officials have reportedly urged him to shift focus away from the total number of cases and instead tell the public how the influx of severe cases is bogging down health systems around the country, especially with few signs that COVID will go away anytime soon.

Many health experts say the omicron variant appears to be spreading rapidly around the world, but fortunately cases have been less severe especially for those who have received a COVID vaccination and a booster shot. Still, some states, companies and organizations are implementing more COVID safety measures to curb the spread of the virus before it gets out of hand.
