COLUMBUS, Ohio — In 1977, the interactive television service, QUBE, debuted in Columbus, Ohio. The experimental cable system offered 30 themed channels, including sports and children’s programming. It revolutionized the cable television industry, introducing new technology that set the stage for the multitude of content options available today.

Jim Zimmerman of James Madison University, a former print and broadcast journalist, was recruited by QUBE to become the founding editor of the innovative cable system’s monthly guide. Zimmerman spoke with Spectrum News 1 about the defining impact of QUBE.
