Citing an FBI search-warrant application, Forbes on Tuesday reported an alleged member of ISIS living in the U.S. was plotting to assassinate former President George W. Bush.
According to the report, the alleged operative traveled to Dallas in November 2021 to take video around Bush’s home and sought to recruit a team he hoped to smuggle into the U.S. from across the Mexican border.
The report further says that the FBI caught onto the scheme via two confidential informants as well as the alleged plotter’s use of the WhatsApp messaging service.
The FBI said the suspect is based in Columbus, Ohio, and wished to assassinate the former president because he feels he was responsible for killing numerous Iraqis and tearing Iraq apart following the 2003 invasion of the country.
Spectrum News reached out to Bush’s office Tuesday and received the following statement:
“President Bush has all the confidence in the world in the United States Secret Service and our law enforcement and intelligence communities.”
The report indicated the suspect has not been charged and it is unclear if he has been arrested.
The FBI said the suspect has been in the U.S. since 2020 and had an asylum claim pending.
