AUSTIN, Texas — A source close to Oscar-winning actor Matthew McConaughey told NBC on Tuesday that the Austin, Texas, resident is interested in “becoming an investor/co-owner” of the NFL’s Washington Commanders.

The team’s front office as well as current owner Dan Snyder have been the subject of multiple investigations, including two NFL claims of toxic workplace culture and allegations of sexual harassment.

Last week, Dan and Tanya Snyder, current owners of the Washington Commanders, said they’ve retained Bank of America securities in order to scout a potential sale of the team.

Dan Snyder has claimed ownership of the team for more than 20 years, but last year, the NFL fined the Washington Commanders $10 million and consequently, Dan Snyder gave up day-to-day operations of the team. Tanya Snyder took over that role.

McConaughey is not only one said to be interested in buying the Commanders. Amazon co-founder Jeff Bezos and influential hip-hop artist Jay-Z have also expressed interest in the team.

Kevin Durant, a UT Austin alumni, is another curious party. The power forward told ESPN this week that he was interested in joining a bid for the team.
