COLUMBUS — On the corner of West Goodale Street and Neil Avenue in Columbus sits a familiar building with a rich history. The former Orthodox church has gone through many phases, but its current use may be the unique.
“It was up for sale for three years,” said new owner Keith Michael Denlinger. “We knew it would be really popular if we could get the building beautiful again.”
After a nearly year-long renovation, Denlinger opened Danceville USA, a ballroom dance studio on the first floor. The space has also been remodeled to host weddings, however, what lies beneath has area residents talking.
“The way I run all my businesses is I always think about what would I want to do,” said Denlinger. “I was looking for a space that could be social and really bring people together.”
Sotto Terra at The Sanctuary on Neil is an underground speakeasy-style bar located in a posh basement. The venue first welcomed visitors for a “The Office” themed trivia night and has hosted packed events since. The venue now hosts a variety of trivia nights, karaoke nights, drag shows and more.
“We are working on Mondays and Tuesdays, creating a talent show night and then a jazz night,” said Denlinger. “Creating a place for everyone to get together and have a great time is really important.”
