SHAKER HEIGHTS, Ohio — Mayor David Weiss announced Friday the city has appointed Wayne Hudson as Shaker Heights’ next police chief.

“I am very pleased to announce Wayne Hudson’s appointment as police chief,” Weiss said in a press release. “He comes to Shaker Heights with a broad and impressive background in law enforcement, demonstrated commitment to community and inclusion, and strong interpersonal communication skills, all of which I view as critical for our next police chief. He will be leading a department of skilled and dedicated professionals with a solid leadership team in place.”

Hudson is coming from Douglas County, Neb., and will assume the role starting Jan. 9, 2023.

He started his career serving as a security police specialist of the U.S. Air Force from 1986-1992, according to Weiss’ office. Then in 1994, he was a reserve deputy sheriff for the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office. He was then hired into a fulltime position there in 1995, eventually becoming sergeant, lieutenant and then captain in 2013. He took over the role as chief deputy last year.
