The Sherwin Williams CEO, John G. Morikis, provided an update on construction and also announcing a commitment known as ‘Building Our Future. This all coming less than a year after the new global headquarters facility broke ground in the heart of Downtown Cleveland.

The gathering was hosted by the Urban League of Cleveland with members from Sherwin Williams and Cleveland Mayor Justin Bibb. They all say while construction has been ongoing for less than a year, Sherwin Williams is making a commitment to collaborate with groups like the urban league to create economic opportunity.

Morikis said that they are dedicated to spreading the dollar and contracting over 180 million dollars to minority, female owned and small business. Blane Griffin, Cleveland City Council president, said this commitment stands for not only what Cleveland needs but what it deserves.

“Diversity, equity and inclusion is about expanding the pie, not shrinking the pie,” said Griffin. “So the more diverse, equitable and inclusive workforce and entrepreneurs that you have working on a construction project like this, the more you increase, the wealth prospects in the city of Cleveland. So it’s important that we make sure that we have their investment, but also that we help bring up minority and female contracts.”

Sherwin-Williams also provided an update on their global headquarters in downtown Cleveland, saying 28 building anchors have been drilled deep into the earth.

The company said in August the tower concrete slab was poured and most recently, the constructions teams have been preparing the pavilion and garage sections for foundation work.
