DAYTON, Ohio — Sinclair Community College has named a new provost.

Dr. Anthony “Tony” Ponder has been selected Sinclair’s new provost after a nationwide search, Sinclair officials announced this week in a press release.

Ponder is currently serving as Sinclair’s Dean of the Science, Mathematics & Engineering Division, a position he has held since August 2012.

He will begin his new role Feb. 1, according to Sinclair officials.

“Dr. Ponder’s extensive academic and administrative leadership experience and his commitment to identifying and executing innovative solutions to providing high quality, accessible learning opportunities for students makes him the ideal candidate to continue our tradition of academic excellence,” said Dr. Steve Johnson, Sinclair Community College president. “The Provost position is one of the most critical leadership roles at Sinclair and we are thrilled to have Dr. Ponder leading our academic and college credit endeavors.”

Ponder joined Sinclair Community College in 1991 as an instructor in the Mathematics Department. He earned tenure in 1996 and was promoted to the rank of professor in 2005, officials said.

In 2007, Ponder was appointed to the position of the Mathematics Department chairperson, according to the press release.

“It is an incredible honor to serve as Provost for Sinclair Community College and build upon the institution’s legacy of success and academic excellence,” Ponder said.  “I look forward to advancing our strategic priorities of alignment, growth, and equity to ensure students, faculty, and staff achieve their educational and professional goals.”

Ponder has a bachelor’s degree from Ohio State University, a master’s degree from Wright State University, and a doctorate in community college leadership from Ferris State University, according to the press release.
