SANDUSKY, Ohio — The State of Ohio concluded its investigation into an August 2021 accident at Cedar Point that injured a woman standing near a ride.

What You Need To Know

  • State investigators found no evidence that any laws were broken relating to an August 2021 incident involving Cedar Point’s Top Thrill Dragster
  • A metal bracket and bolt broke away from the ride, striking a woman and sending her to the hospital
  • The state released 620 pages of documents from the accident

A review conducted by the Ohio Department of Agriculture concluded that there was “insufficient evidence to find the actions or inactions of Cedar Point a violation” of Ohio law. A 620-page document complete with photos and eyewitness statements was released by the state Friday.

The incident happened Aug. 15, 2021 and was caused by a piece of the Top Thrill Dragster striking a Michigan woman.

The state’s investigation said the woman sustained a head injury, causing her to be hospitalized. Witnesses reported to officials that the woman was bleeding from her ears and skull.

Photo of metal bracket that struck a Michigan woman was released by the state.

The documents included daily checklists showing that amusement park employees performed an inspection hours before the incident.

A more through inspection was conducted on the ride in May.

According to an inspection report by the Ohio Department of Agriculture, the ride largely passed its inspection. The report noted several issues with constraints, but the inspectors said the ride came into compliance one day following the inspection.
