The threat for severe weather overnight through mid-morning on Saturday keeps increasing and expanding.

What You Need To Know

  • Rain moves in Friday night, with severe storms likely after midnight Saturday
  • Downpours, gusty winds and even isolated tornadoes are possible
  • Colder and drier air moves in late Saturday and into Sunday morning

The latest severe weather risk from the Storm Prediction center has Columbus, Dayton and Cincinnati under a slight risk for severe weather from 12 a.m. through 10 a.m. Saturday.

A slight risk means scattered severe storms are possible. The marginal risk means more isolated severe storms.

We will have very mild, even rising, temperatures overnight with higher dew points.

This will help set the stage for severe storms with damaging winds and tornadoes.

We will get into some downpours and heavy pockets of rain, but the progressive nature of these storms should keep us out of widespread flooding.

The “enhanced” risk you see to our west in Indiana is unusual, even during the height of our severe weather season.

Make sure you have a way to get warnings while you are asleep, whether it’s a weather radio or your phone.

Scattered rain begins Friday evening, but the threat for severe weather approaches western Ohio around midnight.

Strong and severe storms will approach central Ohio around 3 a.m. The way these storms will line up shows their potential to cause wind damage and even some rotating storms.

A last line of gusty and maybe even severe storms will move east around 9-10 a.m.

We will see storms move on by lunchtime, but we could still see wind damage from gusty winds even without storms.

Winds will be highest near Lake Erie, with some 60 mph wind gusts possible through the early evening.

Temperatures will fall from the 60s to the 40s in the afternoon and then into the 20s Saturday night!
