“This is a great fit for COSI for so many reasons,” said COSI President Dr. Frederic Bertley. “It highlights a diverse area of veterinary science and shows boys and girls the kinds of occupations you can have.”

The exhibit immerses children and their families in the Doc McStuffins universe in a Toy Hospital environment. Children assume doctor-play roles and help solve problems, all while learning lessons about healthy habits, empathy and nurturing care.

“Almost everything is hands-on interactive,” said Dr. Bertley. “When kiddos can touch, feel, and manipulate things, it leaves a different kind of memory and keeps them excited about what they have learned.”

That learning continues outside the exhibit with the center’s Color of Science program, highlighting real-life female veterinarians.

“Our mission is to engage, inspire, and transform lives,” said Dr. Bertley. “We want to make sure people understand that scientists come in all shapes and sizes it is not just old men with thick glasses and pocket protectors but women make fantastic scientists and engineers so do persons of color so do members of the LGBTQ plus community.”
