Tornado confirmed in Fairfield County following Wednesdays severe weather

FAIRFIELD COUNTY, Ohio — The National Weather Service in Wilmington Ohio confirmed an EF-0 tornado touched down on Wednesday when high winds and isolated storms had most of the state alert for severe weather.

Maximum wind speed of the tornado reached around 80 mph.

Damage was observed along Election House Road NW, where metal panels from an outbuilding were blown away, the panels were found embedded in trees across the road on a neighboring property. The tornado crossed Rainbow Drive NW where tree damage was visible on both sides of the road.

Similar damage was seen on the west and east sides of Lancaster Kirkersville Road NW. Along Stringtown Road NW, north of Coonpath Road NE, minor structural damage was seen at several properties. Trees were damaged along the northern side of the Pleasant Valley Golf Course. 

While the intensity remained weak, “a clear path of damage continued to be found,” according to NWS. Damage was reported along several properties of Tschopp Road NE, Lancaster Newark Road NE and Old Mill Road NE. NWS said the tornado likely weakened and dissipated before crossing Old Millersport Road NE.
